About the Author
Kirk has studied painting for more than twenty years, starting in junior high school. A graduate of the Cleveland Art Institute, his bold palette and unique style are influenced by everything from nineteenth century academic painting to 1930s animation. Mr. Kirk lives in upstate New York with his wife, Kathy, and his daughters, Violet, Primrose, and Wisteria.

Christmas Storyteller

My little niece literally devours the Little Miss Spider series -- and sometimes, no review beats a two year old's reaction. On glossy paper rich with colors and gorgeous illustration, the simple story of Little Miss Spider on yet another adventure hypnotizes my little niece. This book is great for any young child who loves to read and enjoys being read to. Simple word play and rhymes are fun and interesting. The book itself is very small so it can be handled easier with children's hands and additionally, it isn't too long to induce tedium or boredom. All in all, it's a great little stocking stuffer.

Great Art, Cute Rhyme, Nice Story - a review of "Little Miss Spider A Christmas Wish"

This is a cute rhyming book about Little Miss Spider, her mother (Bettie Beetle), and her friend Asparagus Beetle. The story is essentially one about how much more important people are than things. It is heartwarming and Holiday appropriate.

I have to say though, that I was a bit puzzled about what was going on until I read the front flyleaf. The flyleaf provided a great deal of information about what the story was about. It explains something of Miss Spider's own adoption, and how she is missing all of her friends who are hibernating. I highly recommend you take a moment to read it with your child -at least once - before going on to the rest of the text.

The Accelerated Reading designation for this book is 3.1 which means that it is suggested for children in the first month of Third Grade. Having said that I would note that my own children had a bit of a problem with the font because it is stylized (i.e. fancy).

Vocabulary includes: boughs, beneath, Asparagus, gargoyles, frighten, cushion, and sheltering.

Four Stars. [B-] :::: The artwork is typical of Miss Spider. Color is vivid and covers the entire page. Good Read-aloud. I liked the pro-family, pro-adoption attitudes, and the fact that the vocabulary isn't babyish. The AR designation for this book is 3.1.

A total rip-off

I think this book is a total "duplicate" of the book "Let's Find Pokemon!" I think the author saw how popular the book "Let's Find Pokemon!" was and tried to do the same thing with Digimon. Needless to say, she failed miserably. The art isn't good and the challenges in the book are exactly like the ones in "Let's Find Pokemon!"(You have to find three different creatures on each page, which are all hidden in a place from the TV show or the video game) I wouldn't recommend getting this book unless it's for a young kid who just wants to look at the pics and find the Digimon.

Fun to sing...easy to read

Another wonderful, children's book which combines singing and the written word and picture. Many children today are not raised learning these traditional children's songs. A great addition to any child's personal library, and a great book to read and sing over, over, and over again. I also use this to sing with my younger students where I teach elementary school music - they never get tired of it. Be sure you purchase the accompanying cd...makes it even easier to sing along.

CAUGHT BETWEEN TWO CULTURES

Ten-year-old Billie Tommy is a Seminole Indian who lives with his family in a chickee in the Florida Everglades. He struggles to find a path through life which is both true to his heritage yet helpful to modern society. But it is very difficult even for adutls to straddle two worlds with opposing social values.
We learn about Seminole history, customs, religion, and injustice from white men. We experience terrible hurricanes plus American crudeness and prejudice. Will Billie choose to become a New Indian or walk the path to being a True Indian, as taught by his grandfather?.
Throughout the entire story there lurks the spectre of The Big One--a 15-foot alligator which terrorizes the locals. When the boys are out frogging, will the Big One get them at last? Billie's grandparents are set in the old ways and refuse to accept life in a new camp. And why won't his uncle teach him to wrestle an alligator, which earns good pay?
This is a very thoughtful book with both physical and mental action. Reminds us how hard it must be to walk the social tightrope beween two worlds in modern society, and how shamefully many whites treat native Americans. There are men of honor and wisdom among all native populations, with words of dignity which all races should value. (A book with a similar locale but set 80 years ago is Lostman's River, by Cynthia De Felice.)

A funny book about the Indian sky path

Billie Tommie, a ten year-old boy, lives in the Indian ways but now he is going to school with the white boys. Billie's grandfather, Abraham, tells Billie legends and stories of the Indian ways. Grandfather says if Billie leads a good life, he will walk the sky path, the city in the sky, when he dies. Billie wants to walk the sky path but he wants to learn about the white man's ways too!
Which path will Billie take?
I think this book did not have a lot of action. But in some parts it was funny!
I would recommend this book to people who don't like excitement.

A book about the Seminole culture

Ten year-old Billie is a Seminole native american. He lives in the Florida Everglades with his grandpa, grandma, brother, sister, mom, dad, and uncle.
Billie is the first one in his family to go to school. When he sleeps over at his friend Jeff's house, he cannot understand how they can eat food that was in a box or a can.
Seminole native american or All-American person, Billie wonders which he would like to be more.
I recommend tihs book to people who like books about other cultures.

'N the Beginning

There are a ton of boy bands on the charts today, all competing for the top spots.  What makes 'N Sync so special?

'N Sync stands out because the young men in it are genuine; they're not a prepackaged rent-a-band put together by big-time music promoters.  Justin Timberlake explains: "We put the group together ourselves.  I think that's something that's paid off in the long run because we were friends before we got a management team and before we got a record deal."

Lance Bass agrees."Everything that we do is always together, and I think that's what makes the group unique."

The web of their friendship is dizzying.  Flashback to 1995: Pennsylvania native Chris Kirkpatrick was living in Orlando, Florida, and working at Universal Studios as a doo-wop singer.  It was there that he met and became friendly with Brooklyn-born Joey Fatone.  Meanwhile, Washington, D.C., native JC Chasez and Memphis boy Justin Timberlake had just wrapped a stint together on The Mickey Mouse Club, also in Orlando.  Justin knew Chris from auditions, and JC was friendly with Joey, whose high-school buddies had also been on The Mickey Mouse Club.

Chris was itching to put a group together--a group who could take five-part harmonies and translate them into pop music.  He contacted Justin, who, he knew, could sing.  Justin enlisted JC, and soon old pal Joey fell into the fold.

The foursome was ready to make a go of it, but they lacked something important.

Though Chris, JC, Justin, and Joey had wide vocal ranges, not one of them felt he had a solid enough bass.

Justin immediately called his vocal coach back home in Memphis, hoping the coach would be able to recommend the perfect "low guy." Enter James Lansten "Lance" Bass, a good-natured country boy from Clinton, Mississippi.  Lance jumped on the next flight to Orlando and, upon arrival, instantly hit it off with the guys.  Chris, Justin, Joey, and JC knew they had found their final member.

What a great book about *NSYNC. There is alot of great info on each one. And alot of great photo's. Which ever guy is your favorite(mine is Joey) you will find out eveything about them. From their favorite food, to the car they drive. I think you will enjoy the book!

I'M GETTING THE BOOK!!!! I DON'T HAVE IT YET BUT READ SOME OF MY FRIEND'S BOOK (ONLY 2 PAGES)AND KNEW I ABSOLUTLY HAD TO GET IT!!!! 'N SYNC IS THE BEST GUY GROUP IN THE WORLD AND I'M TOTALLY OBSESSED WITH THEM WITH: A FOLDER FULL OF PICS AND ARTICLES, THE '99 CALENDAR, 'N THE MIX VIDEO, MY OWN VIDEOS THAT I TAPED OFF T.V. (OVER 8 HOURS), CASETTE TAPES, BOTH ALBUMS, 5 STUFFED ANIMALS NAMED AFTER THEM, AND A LOG BOOK FOR WHEN THEY COME ON THE RADIO!!!!! I LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM TO DEATH AND WAIT UNTIL JANUARY 3RD TO GO TO THE SAN DIEGO CONCERT THAT I GOT TICKETS TO!!! STAY 'N SYNC EVERYBODY!!! P.S.I ALSO SAW THAT JUSTIN WROTE IN SOMETHING! Great book; packed w/ cool facts about this wonderful group.

I WANTED THIS BOOK FOR CHRISTMAS SO BAD!! WHEN I GOT IT I WAS SO THRILLED. I finished the book in one day. I thought this book was very interesting. Each of the five group members had a special section of the book just about them. Although JC is my favorite *N SYNCer, I have to say after finishing the book, I came away liking them all equal. The most interesting thing I read was about how Chris studied to become a psychologist. I have a great deal of respect for Lance and his values because I think that is one of the most important things a guy should have before having a relationship with a girl. Much luck to all you guys! Great book, excellent albums, cool video, KEEP IT UP!! I can only hope to meet you guys someday! -Heather
