Award-winning poet Constance Levy leads youngsters on a poetic exploration of how water runs through our daily lives.
Water runs through our lives; it is, in fact, essential to all life. And it takes many forms-it can be the liquid that quenches our thirst, the rain that pours from the sky, the juice of a ripe tomato, even a dramatic white tower in a polar landscape. These poems observe nature and also invite young readers to make observations of their own.

Amazon.com Review
From juicy grass to waves of spit and anger to teardrops to winter "sky-pickles," award-winning poet Constance Levy splashes around in all water's many forms. Thirty-four poems celebrate snowdrops, soap bubbles, fog, and glaciers, in a way that will encourage young readers to view the regular old world through new lenses: I love you,
fuzzy foggy air,
so dewy wet
and white
because without you
who would know
what walking in a cloud
is like?
David Soman's shades-of-blue-gray illustrations (in watercolor, of course) more often evoke than depict, inspiring still more flights of fancy in the reader. Levy's childlike joy in water--whether it be a still pool, scampering ocean waves, or "tasty snowflakes"—-is contagious. (Ages 8 to 12) --Emilie Coulter
From School Library Journal
Grade 2-6-A collection of 34 poems about water in all its many forms. Many of the selections are descriptive, such as "Ocean Rhythms," using and repeating simple words to great effect: "Wave after wave, each wave a beat each beat repeating each stretch receding. This is Earth's old wild heart beating." Others are personifications of things like icebergs or bathwater, while still others speak directly to-or in praise of-water's many appearances and uses. In "Tasty Snowflakes," the praise is ebullient and direct; in "Fog" the tone is as soft as the subject. The variety of voices, all a mixture of praise, delight, and celebration, makes this a first choice for all collections. Jane Yolen's Water Music (Boyds Mills, 1995), with photographs by Jason Stemple, is visually beautiful and also addresses water in all its forms, although without the variety of voices and moods that Levy's collection contains. Soman's two-color watercolors are perfectly suited to the individual selections. In classrooms, at home, in library programs, these poems can be recited-and enjoyed-again and again.

Gr. 3-6. This delightful collection of 34 poems celebrates water's mystical, metamorphic properties in nature and our daily lives. Using simple, descriptive vocabulary and effectively employing rhythm, rhyme, and repetition in varying poetic styles, Levy explores topics from rainbows and stalactites to bubbles and teatime. There's the echoing "Ocean Rhythms": "Wave after wave / each wave a beat / each beat repeating / each stretch / receding. / This is Earth's / old wild heart beating." "Water Wizard" gets down to basics: "I quench your thirst, / I flood, I launder, / I mirror, I skip, / I race, I wander . . . / I soothe a throat, / I brew your tea. / I swim in you, / you swim in me." This is an accessible, charming collection with imaginative, kid-friendly similes and metaphors and poems that run the gamut from lyrical to playful. It's sure to get children to appreciate both water and poetry in new ways. Unfortunately, the art was difficult to evaluate in the galley. Shelle Rosenfeld

I love this book! Constance Levy does it again with this delightful, refreshing and thought provoking collection of poems. Her skillful use of rhythm and rhyme, and her keen observations of nature earn her a place among the upper echelon of children's poets such as Emily Dickinson and Lilian Moore.
Thorougly enjoyable, and it's both fun and educational for my children.
