Dated, but interesting...

Shea's manual is more interesting as an historical document about the development of home woodworking between the 1940s and 1970s than a useful guide. In presenting the 4th Edition of "Woodworking for Everybody," Shea observed that despite an almost complete revision and updating of contents, the purpose of his book remained essentially the same. As with the first edition, it was intended to serve as a practical guide and book of instructions on woodworking practice. It's staying power, as exhibited by remaining in print for 30 years and four editions, certainly earn it a place as a significant icon of the woodworking "movement." Unfortunately, the subsequent 40 years have not been kind...this book is of limited practical value to woodworkers today, who will find discussions of long ago discarded power tools and techniques quaint, but rather dated.
